And in fact, you probably won't read it. Aint nothing wrong with that.
I know I know, i havent blogged in a while. I know, I know, my grammar and spelling are terrible. I know, I know I know. Stop nagging. Why don't I blog all the time? Because - shocker - I am lazy and unmotivated and often have nothing to talk about. If I don't have a block of time with nothing to do - rare - or something which needs spouting off about, I probably won't be posting. Today, again, nothing really noteworthy to talk about.
It's snowing. these southerners are absurd when it comes to dealing with snow.
Our cable got knocked out again so me and comcast are at war, as usual. my feud with them actually kind of resembles the gaza situation - we're cool for a little while, we call a cease-fire, then they do something stupid and i get angry and we engage in battle some more. arrrggg.
I am hungry.
I am coming towards the end of the Bret Hart book. It won't win any awards for literature, but it was a fast, easy, and entertaining read. Some parts of him I love him more because of it, others I tend to dislike him - knowing what was going on etc without his point of view skewing things. Anyways, recommended for a wrestling fan. What's on tap after this? I don't know, but I might go with Coulter's new book. Not because I particularly like her - becuase I dont - but becuase it is entertaining and probably a fast read.
I just found out that my credit card has reward points, and that makes me happy. Unforutnately, the rewards aren't all that great fr the amount of things I charge to that card.
Finally had a solid weekend without too much going on. Once I cleared the hurdle of the inauguration weekend - which went fairly smoothly - I was in the clear and could finally relax. Well, relax by my standards, that is.
Which, of course, leads me to the main topic today - college basketball. Those who know me that my #1 love is the Mets. My #2 very well could be Syracuse Basketball. I love it. I can't get enough of it. When the games aren't on, I read about the team. I read rumors, blogs, game recaps, and crunch numbers. As soon as one game ends, I am already counting down unti lthe next game starts- that is the mark of passion. And as much as I want the Mets to start back up, I am loving this college hoops season.
Such unpredictability! That's why college basketball is rpboably the most volatile of all of the major sports - upsets do happen every single night. Everyone is a fan of March Madness - which is great - but don't be fooled - this is what things are liek the entire season. There are teams that are overrated, underrated, exciting games, last second shots, and mid-majors flexing their muscles. Certainly 48 games over 4 days - the opening weekend of the tournament - is the pinnacle of the season, but I am enjoying the months prior just as well.
How about some quick hits? Duke is #1 by default - not the best team in the country and really is untested. Wake is good, not that good. UNC is awesome but prone to stupidity. The Big East is ridiculous - there are probably 9 teams tourney-bound from it. UConn, Pittsburgh, Louisville... and maybe even Syracuse or Marquette, depending on matchups - are legitimate final 4 contenders. The rest of the country offers 2 more teams - Oklahoma and Michigan State - and that's it. Your final 4 comes from some combination of those teams. Things can change, but I am just saying, this is how things look right now. Also, remember my rules of picking games in March? Here is a quick rundown, with some commentary, to send you out on a high note!
1.) defense wins championships. thats louisville, pitt, uconn, duke right now
2.) bet on the big name coach - never, ever pick against tom izzo if the month is march. bu dont count out pitino, boeheim, calhoun or roy williams
3.) dont sleep on mid-majors - not this year though. xavier is incredibly overrated
4.) superstars win games - blake griffin is the man on my board. and hansbrough, obviously. this kid jeff teague at wake could be up there too
5.) get hot at the right time - louisville right now, marquette if theycan stay hot, etc
6.) never put your money on the west coast - ucla, arizona state? garbage.
7.) big men combos come in handy - this is where cuse has an advantage i think. arinze AND jackson are both very capalbe and will give smaller teams (especially mid-majors who only have one big guy) big problems. oklahoma has 2 big guys too and that helps a lot. why wont ND ever do anything? because they only have harangody and literally nobody else
8.) certain seeds have a knack of upsets - depends on seeding obviously.
9.) bet against the non-traditional power - heres why i think wake might slip - no experience, nto a traditional power, not a big name coach, not that great defensively. oklahoma might slip into this trap too.
10.) duke is always overrated. speaks for itself.
