Yes, you are reading that correctly. Insane, I know. I actually have a decent amount of stuff to talk about, even if some of them are quick-hitters.
There is a huge next-weekend of college basketball and I am very excited.
The Giants are terrible and the loss of Jacobs makes me mad. Screw Plaxico - the loss of Jacobs is what really hurts.
My thoughts onthe Office from last week? It was good not great. This was clearly a "plot" episode that wasn't particularly funny. There was a funny scene or two, but nothing ground-breaking. The other thing, as has always been my complaint - they pull the trigger way too quickly on certain things. They could have had boiling tension between Phyllis and Angela for so much more than one episode and had it explode into the affair confession. Also - wht was with Andy? Did he not hear them over his sitar playing? Or was he just ignoring it? Not well explained. They could have also done something more with Meredith's drinking - again, why pull the trigger on this situaion in one episode? You know this is going to be forgotten in the next episode. Very short-sighted decisions. LOVED the scene with the black doll though. Hilarious.
the Mets finally traded schoenweiss. This on the heels of trading heilman. In 2007, the problem was the bullpen - what did Omar do? Nothing. In 08, the problem is the bullpen - at least now he gets it. Joe Smith, Schoenweiss, Heilman, Matt Wise, Wagner - all gone. Fine by me. I don't even cre who they bring in to fill the roles - just blow things up. There's no way anyone can be as bad as Schoenweiss/Heilman.
On Thursday of last week I went to Good Stuff Eatery - the place opwned by Spike from TOp Chef. It's just a burger chain, an idea I kind of like. Spike, knowing that his celebrity is not foever, is cashing in. Opening a high-end place is good, yes, but not accessible to fans of the show. Open a place that makes good, accessible food - burgers, fries, shakes - and make them good. It was like Five Guys. The patties were tasty and larger than Five Guys and the burger I got was very tasty. It had a big patty, lots of cheese, onion rings and chipotle BBQ sauce. I give it a good thumbs up. The fries were excellent, although the portion was enormous. I got the Village Fries, which had thyme and rosemary and sea salt. They were very good. I passed on the shake because it was too pricey. And herein lies the problem - a burger, fries and a soda at Five Guys will run you around $9. Here, it was $13. And if I got a shake? That would've been in the $16-18 range. That is just too much for takeout burgers. It was very good once, but it has diminishing returns. One thing that I did like, thogh, was that they had a huge variety of gourmet burgers - everything from onion rings and BBQ sauce to a fried egg and pepperjack. I couild go back and not be forced to get the same thing.
Another quick thing - I know there are some complaints about why I post long things one day then nothing for several more days. Why not just stretch out the topics over multiple days rather than all in one day? This is what the masses want to know. Why do I do it this way? Because I write off the top of my head, often forget what I intend to write about, and need to get thoughts out when I have time/enegy and it is fresh in my brain. So there.
There is a new Muppets Christmas Speicla on Wednesday and I am excited.
This was all I could think of when I heard about the guy throwing his shoes at bush -
Santa never scared me. Then again, I never saw an ethnic Santa in my youth. Just kidding. But seriously - this
gallery is worth a chuckle.
Watched an excellent special on the
Shroud of Turin yesterday on Discovery. I have to admit, I had only ever heard of this before watching the show last night. Do some reading if you have time - it is fascinating. Also, thoughts? I don't think it's legit in the sense that it was Jesus' burial garments, but I thnk there is a very strong possibility that it is the last leader of the Knights Templar. Also, thought on the supposed Jesus image in the shroud - Jesus was born of Jewish/Israeli parents in Jerusalem around 4 BC. Why would he look like a Middle-Ages-Era European? Just saying...
I played quite a bit of Rock Band on Friday. I am not nearly as good as I thought I was. Throwing in the bass pedal made my life difficult.
- "Even if only half of the projected 2 million to 4 million people show up for next month's inauguration, the Washington region's roadways and transit systems will be too pressed to handle the crush."
-"And anyone planning to drive in from Virginia might consider a boat - the Roosevelt, Mmeorial and inbound 14th st bridges will be restricetd to buses and authorized vehicles. Maryland and DC officials are considering bus-only corridors."
-"If 1 million people try to board the subway at the same time after the main festivities end, it could take more than 8 hours to move everyone."
-"The most the subway system can carry is about 120,000 people per hour. And that doesnt factor in the inevitable delays caued by out of towners confused about how to use the system. That number also assumes nobody gets sick, no one jams the door and all people cooperate. What do you think the odds are for that to happen if we get 4 million people?"
Annnnd finally - a little Xmas action:
