Still Fuming

Here's a fast post to satisfy my readers.  But very fast, becuase 1.) I am still fuming from Sunday and 2.) I have a ton of work to do.

I am very convinced that the song that you wake up to on the radio can influence the mood of your day.  I am having a good day.  Why?  Keeping reading...

James Dean died today 53 years ago.  Interesting becuase he is considered a movie icon....yet only starred in 2 movies?  East of Eden and Rebel Without a Cause are his ONLY legacy.  has there ever been someone with so little experience who gets so much hype?  Especially 50 years later?

This is just a quick note, and not to get too political, but the debate was Friday and everyone called it a tie.  Some said McCain won, some said Obama won.  But really, who wins and loses in a debate?  Who scores a debate?  Obviously, everyone has a bias, and scoring based on what you hear (If you are anti-war and McCain says he's for it, you think it's a bad point.)  I'm sure lots think Obama or McCain won definitively - but that also reflects the number of agreeing-points that they heard throughout.   Just a thought.  Even if I stole it from our friends over at KatieFavazza.com.

Go read yesterday's post.  And think about this "woman"

And now, my wake-up tune...

Prepare Yourself

I have to be honest, it might not even be worth youreading any more of this entry. My weekend was good – some time out with some good friends, but the real activity of the weekend was the Mets not making the playoffs after a pathetic defeat by the Marlins Sunday afternoon. Yep, this is an all-Mets post.

But first, I will address like 3 things before I go on a tirade…

I lost in my fantasy baseball final yesterday by a score of 6-3. Essentially, there are 11 categories that we compete in – whoever has the best numbers in that category wins that category, and whoever has the most categories wins. 6-3 sounds like it wasn’t close, but it actually was. We tied in 2 categrories (runs and wins) and I lost by one in errors and saves. Thus, if my team had put together 1 more run, 1 more win, 2 more saves, and 2 fewer errors over a 2 week span, I win 7-4. Fun nonetheless, albeit it was a demanding season. For my first fantasy baseball season ever, I would say I did fairly well

RIP Paul Newman. I am too young to remember you as an actor, but I can assure you, you had the BEST pineapple salsa in the universe.

Maybe this will lighten the mood before the venom I am about to spew.

And now, the elephant in the room. My stupid Mets. Do you have any idea how much time, energy, blood, sweat, tears, and money I have poured into this team over the years? How much emotion I have put into this, hours spent listening to Mets coverage, hell, even supporting entertainment figured I would normally hate because they were Mets fans (yes, that’s you Jon Stewart and Tim Robbins).

I love the Mets. I love love love the Mets. I love baseball because I love the Mets. I have loved the Mets from my earliest memories of Daryl Boston, Howard Johnson and Frank Viola. I have loved the Mets through the dark ages after Generation K and before the late 90s surge. I loved Bret Saberhagen, Rico Brogna and Dallas Green. Ok, maybe not Dallas Green. Keep in mind, this is all from the top of my head some 15 years later – and being pulled from the impressionable elementary school mind I was carrying around at the time. I remember watching the Jackie Robinson game with my dad in 1997 and the Piazza-Clemens incident in 2000. I loved Bobby Valentine when he was ejected from a game and returned in a costume some innings later.

Things I didn’t love but endured? Always being in the shadow of the Yankees. Fran Healy, the worst play by play man in history. The dump that was Shea stadium. The aforementioned Dallas Green. Losing players as soon as they found talent (Isringhausen, Jeff Kent – I look at you). Having anyone who made their name with the Mets go to the Yankees (Doc, Straw). Roberto Alomar.  Mo Vaughn. Karim Garcia. Mike DeJean. Jim Duquette. Victor Zambrano. Braden effing Looper. Shawn Green.

Willie Randolph ended up on my list of hatred earlier this year, but I have ranted about that in the past. Is he still responsible for this team’s collapse in 2008? Not necessarily, but he was responsible in 2007 and this was still hanging over the heads of this team. David Wright was pressing. Reyes couldn’t buy a hit down the stretch. This discussion wouldn’t even be had if Delgado didn’t dog it under Randolph. However, Willie is gone and the team performed 18 games better with Jerry Manuel at the helm.

Manuel has to stay newxt year. He turned this team around 180 degrees. They went from 1 game under-.500 to a team competing for a division title into the last weekend. Willie was a Yankee all the way, and Jerry has a good attitude to fit the Mets.

The manager, obviously then, is not the problem. Who sucked down the stretch? Wright, for sure. Reyes was bad. Church was awful, but he gets a pass because of the injuries. Beltran, Deglado were both good. Santana was an animal. Pelfrey was great. Maine was hurt, but is constituently good, at worst.   Perez was his normal erratic self, but was good enough.

We had some kids come up this year which brings some level of confidence. Daniel Muphy, Nick Evans – you guys were very solid and I look forward to what you have to offer next year. Tatis was a product of the minors. Angel Pagan was hurt all year but was solid when he first played. Parnell, Kunz, Figueroa, Niese, among others tasted the majors.

So things seem pretty good though right? Well, not quite. When mentioning all the good, I have to also mention all the bad. Pedro was terrible. Castillo is terrible and reaping the benefits of a 4 year deal signed… oh wait, just this past off-season. Looks like we just eat that contract. El Duque never even pitched an inning this year. Alou played 12 games. Trot Nixon played like twice. Andy Phillips played one game. Marlon Anderson is done, even as a bench player. We were always at least one starter short all year – why? Because Pedro and Duque are fragile old men. We never had anyone reliable in the corner outfield spots – because Alou is a fragile old man and Church got hurt in a freak accident. We didn’t have a closer for the last two months because Billy Wagner is a fragile old man. But you can’t blame injuries, that’s for sure. What you can blame, though, is the retard who signed these injury prone bums…

Omar Minaya, I am looking at you. What does this guy have to do to get fired? He somehow gets a 4 year extension by… losing in the playoffs despite having far and away the best talent in the NL? Then having the greatest collapse in baseball history? Oh, then follow that up by missing the playoffs again. The performance of the 2nd half proved that yes, Willie Randolph was the problem. But this team did not run away with the division like they should have – talent was an issue too. And who compiles the talent? Omar Minaya.

You know, it’s quite obvious what the team’s weakness was: the bullpen. This was the worst bullpen ever to contend for a playoff spot. Statistically, it was the second worst in history. They blew TWENTY NINE games after the 7th inning. This is ridiculous! And we had no closer for the 2nd half of the season because of Wagner’s injury. Wagner, although certainly not dominant anymore, was good enough. And who brought together this merry band of losers? Aaron Heilman might just have been the worst pitcher in the National League. Scott Schoenweiss literally turned right-handed batters into MVP candidates to a tune of .350 / .450 / .650. Duaner Sanchez struggles to hit the mid 80s with his fastball. Joe Smith is good but has a propensity to get rocked every now and then. Brian Stokes was good down the stretch but prone to blowups. Luis Ayala, he of a 5.50 ERA in 2008, should never have been installed as a closer. All Minaya acquisitions.

I opened this discussion with my love of the Mets. Why? Because I am considering abandonining my Mets fandom because of Omar Minaya. He has routinely dealt away any prospects we have in exchange for mediocre Latino players. This is no myth – look at the change in the team since he has taken over. Brian Bannister for Ambiorix Burgos. Jae Seo for Duaner Sanchez. Heath Bell and Royce Ring for literally nothing. Matt Lindstrom and Henry Owens for Jason Vargas. Xavier Nady for Roberto Hernandez. Kris Benson for Jorge Julio. The signings of Endy Chavez, Ramon Castro, Robinson Cancel, Raul Casanova, Angel Pagan, Fernando Tatis, Beltran, Pedro, Duque, and the list goes on and on.  Some of these players truly are the elite – but most are not.

Even beyond the racial tension in the Met clubhouse, why not consider the amount of money being thrown around for this? The Mets have the second highest payroll in baseball… to not make the playoffs. Last year? Third highest – no playoffs. What’s wrong here? Anyone can throw money at the wall and be “good” – but one playoff stop in 4 years at the helm isn’t going to cut it. What does Minaya have on the Wilpons that they refuse to fire him? Instead he gets an extension?! The bullpen was the strong point of the Mets in 2006 – going something like 83-0 with leads after the 7th inning. So what does Minaya do? Goodbye Darren Oliver, Chad Bradford, Heath Bell, Royce Ring, Dave Williams. Since then? Worst bullpen in baseball, consistently.

Omar needs to go. Next year? CF, 3B, SS, 1B, C, RF are all set. Left field and second base are up for grabs. Starting pitching? Johan, Pelfrey, Maine are good to go. Perez’s contract is up, and we can tell you first hand – this guy is too erratic to pay any money for. That leaves 2 starters. And the bullpen? Well, there are 11 guys out there. Joe Smith can stay. Brian Stokes can stay. Pedro Feliciano can stay. Every single other guy must go. Heilman and Schoenweiss should literally be put in front of a firing squad. These guys can literally not throw another pitch in NY. Omar, of course, won’t do anything about it. I mean, last year’s bullpen was dredful too – so what did he do? Got rid of Mota, and that’s it.

Omar Minaya has no friggin clue as to what he is doing as a GM. He pulls off an odd great steal of a deal, but makes enough terrible decisions to more than make up for the good. Willie’s head rolled because the team underperformed – Omar’s head has to roll for underperforming again.

And, on top of all this, yesterday was the final game ever at Shea Stadium, our home for 44 years. What a way to go out.

In conclusion...

I hate you Omar Minaya.

Friday Friday Friday

I would do the timer again, becuase I thought that was kind of cool, but I am not devoting my entire brain to blogging today.  Sorry.  But, it's friday and I am not terribly motivated.  As usual, let's get to the quick hits.

BIG Mets win last night and I feel good again.  3 games to go, one game back in the NL East, tied in the wild card.  The only way to ensure a shot at the playoffs is to win out.  At home vs. the Marlins?  Possible.  Tonight Pelfrey pitches and Sunday Johan goes.  Al we need in between is to get a good start out of someone...just good enough to put us in a position to win.  Three games to go.  And yes, it is THAT important.

The Office was on last night for the season premier.  It was a good episode.  I luahged out loud a few times, and it actually took palce IN the office, one of my complaints from last season.   It's as if someone in the writing team said "hold on, let's get back to basics."  They went with the classic formula of stupidity and humor, awkward (not creepy/pathetic) Michael, good lines from supporting cast members, and a love-storyline to carry the show.  Was it one romance story that carried this episode?  No.  But that was nice - this wasn't a soap opera around the Jim/Pam storyline.  Instead, Dwight/Angela, Andy/Angela, Jim/Pam, Holly/Michael all got some play.  The re-introduction of Ryan was a great idea - it brings a fresh new aspect.  Cutting (for the most part) Jan was a good idea - she was hated, and not in the good way.  Holly is a solid character - I liek the dorky but not insane character (ala Michael as opposed to Dwight).  Just a good episode - they held my interest for an entire hour, they had a lot of storylines spnning at once while keeping them interconnected.  They had continuity, etc.  If you look back at the greatest sitcom of all time, Seinfeld, you'll notice that they had their best episode when there wasn't too much of one character - when there were 4 different storylines, with interaction between them.  This was last night's Office - all the stories were separate, yet interconnected.  Very happy with it.  If this is the way the whole season goes, I am happy.

USC lost last night and I am happy with that.  I hate them and the entire Pac-10.

Does anyone watch Mad Men?  Those who watch it say it's the best show ever made...but not many people watch it.  Thoughts?

Today I jumped in the way-back machine and listened to all the music that I did when I was 16-19 or so.  Count the stars, From Autumn to ashes, the movielife, every time I die, further seems forever, finch, alkaline trio, matchbook romance, alexisonfire, hawthorne heights, rx bandits, etc.  Satisfying.

Which has catchier jingles - freecreditreport.com or Easterns Motors?  My vote is for f-r-e-e that spells free, credit report.com baby.

This is my hometown paper in Albany, NY.  This is a storyt where they raided a bar and arrested 47 people with fake IDs, and they estimated that there were over 200 underage people at the bar.  Uh, seriously?  Ask around and what's the known underage bar in Albany?  The Peal, obviously.  Kids used to go there when they were still in high school.  I love it how the newspaper acts like - Who knew?!

And finally, one of those old school vids from back in the day... The band responsible for getting me into pop punk in the first place

I'm setting the timer...

Tons of work to do, so I am setting myself a timer to see how long this takes me.  Lots to cover, in quick-hit format...

First order of business is defintiotely the Mets.  They're awesome one night, terrible the next.  last night they lost in thr 10th after they had 3 straight innings with a man on 3rd and nobody out.  they scored one ONE run out of that.  terrible.  In the 9th, Murphy had a leadoff triple that went to waste when Wright, Church and Castro all couldn't decode some AAA guy.

The office returns tonight - review coming tomorrow (if theres time).

That's what she said.

DC Jazz Festival from Oct 1-7.  Should be good.

Union Station is celebrating its 100th anniversary on the weekend of the 4th.  Should be worth looking into.

Who knew farting on a cop was illegal?

I lost the link, but American Psycho is coming to Broadway.

Hot Pockets are a serious issue in Indiana.

"Fantasy Football is like talking about your kid.  Unless it's your kid, you really don't care."  - Rich Eisen.  You know, i talk about fantasy sports a lot.  And I listen to fantasy sports discusion a lot.  It's true and not true, I guess.  I am here and there.

Quick note on the office, since co-workers just mentioned it.  I watch the office becuase it's entertaining.  As my favorite blog, Take a Report said yesterday - he loves the office just becuase people complain about.  Anyone who says - yes, this means you Kevin - that the BRITISH version is just SOOOO MUCH BETTER.  Shut up.  Seriously.  Kevin, you get a pass since you're actually a Brit.  Nobody else though.  Either watch the American version or don't.  Being into the foreign version is exactly like being the "the book was so much better than the movie" guy just becuase you know that nobody else read the book.  You are an elitist with your head in your posterior.  If you don't like the show, whatever - leave it at that.

Tomorrow night is the CUA Alumni Crabfest.  Yea babe.

Sunday is www.buffalobattle.com  pitting 2 georgetown wing places against one another in battle.  $15 for unlimited wings and 2 beverages.  Not sure if there is a better way to spend the day.  As long as they are showing the NFL.

The Onion loves to make fun of the Mets.  But seriously - there are 4 games left.  Let's get it together and make the playoffs.

Speaking of which, got my official printed playoff tickets today.

And finally...

Whew - 7:32.  Not bad.

Seriously Turbo

Lots of work to do but a few things I want to address...

First, mets win and I am excited.  5 games to go with a 1 game lead and 1.5 back of the NL East.  Whew.  This is fun.  Sort of.

Biden made the dumbest statement ever yesterday - I don't have it in front of me, but it essentially said that when the stock market crashed, FDR didn't go on TV - he addressed the situtaion.  Too bad FDR wasn't in office in 1929 nor had TV even been invented yet.  Oops.

Plaxico was suspended for 2 weeks, including the bye week and the game against Seattle for being an idiot.  Oh well.  We should still be ok.

Lindsay Lohan is officially dating a girl.

Clay Aiken is officially gay.

Matt Millen is officially fired.

Today is Jim Henson's birthday - you died too young.

An analysis of British teeth vs. American teeth?  Strange topic, hard-hitting analysis.

I need some motivation.  Tell em what's up, Ed Harris.  Or should I call you.... FRANK HUMMEL?!

Word to your Mother

Missed out on a prime blogging opportunity yesterday with too much work.  It happens - Mondays are not easy.

Anyways, went home this weekend in Albany and had a great time - good to see some people I hadn't seen in a while, partied but not too hard and got some stuff done around thne city.  Sounds good to me.

Rays, Cubs, Red Sox, Angels have now clinched playoff spots.  The Mets suck.

I had a really good dinner on Saturday night when i went out with my mother to a place in Albany.  I had a delicious Veal Theresa - veal parmigan with prosciutto. Wonderful stuff.  I really need to eat out more in this city - there is far too much good food that I have not experienced.

So Sunday my flight was supposed to leave Albany at 8:40am and I was going to be in Baltimore by 9:45 or so, then had planned to go to the aquarium all day.  Instead, i wake up and am sick as a dog, where I am pretty sure I developed an ulcer from the burning in my stomach.  Note to self, when I was eating that slice of pizza the night before and tried to put some crushed red pepper on and the top fell off and literally smothered the pizza in red pepper?  Bad idea.  Felt it in the am.  Didn't end up flying back until around 6 that night, which actualy worked out well becuase I got to watch the Giants game and gaveme some time to actually relax.

Reading a new book by David Baldacci called the Camel Club.  I had a chancve to finally sit down and read a big chunk of it on my flight, so I am about half way done now.  It's pretty entertaining, although we're still in cahracter development stages with a lot of different storylines.  I like Baldacci though, especially becuase most of his stuff takes place in DC.  I always find a special appeal to a book or movie that takes place somewhere where I know all of the locations which they refer to.

I scored some Mets NLDS tickets assuming they make it in a lottery on Sunday.  If things go smoothly, I am going to Game 1 at Shea of the NLDS - probably game 3 vs. the Cubs (assuming we make it at all).

Speaking of the Mets, look at these stats: with luis Castillo in the lineup, the Mets are 7 games under .500.  With him out of the lineup, we'r 23 games OVER .500.  Why is he still in the lineup?

Furthermore, the Mets have now blown 29 saves, the most of any team ever headed to the playoffs (if the season ended today).  They have lost 14 games with a lead in the 8th inning or later.  The Phils, on the other hand, are 76-0 with leads after the 8th.  How pathetic is that?  Want to know why Omar should be fired?  THis is 2 stinkin years in a row when the bullpen has been literally useless.  Go out, get some new arms in there, and shake things up.  Letting go of 2 guys and cming back the year after the greatest collapse in sports history is simply not good enough.  Omar, you are on the hot seat.

So in a not-so-cool note, my mom picked me up some fresh Maple Syrup up in the Adirondacks last weekend.  Attempting to bring it back to DC where they don't really have maple syrup, I tried to bring it on the plane.  Nope.  Over 3 ounces.  Seriously?  Do I look dangerous?  I know the rules and I am happy they are in place, but seriously?  It's maple syrup.  I will taste it for you.  You can tsate it too.  Just don't make me throw it away - it clearly isnt anything dangerous.  Nope, they say - I have to toss my syrup.  I hate you, TSA.

And now some videos to celerate stupidity:

Thursday = Friday

I even dressed down today knowing that I am going home tomorrow, thus, today = Friday.  No blog tomorrow - i need a day off.

Anyways, this has been a light week for blogging and it continues.

Went to the Mets game last night, got my hands on a ball from the game, so that was awesome.  Had front row seats courtesy of some.... connections .... and the game was good.  Mets won, that's what matters.

After that went to go see KWG's band play at a club in NE.  The murder corridor indeed.  Otherwise the band was really good - Detox Retox - and the crowd was pretty lively.  Got to see some friends and meet some new folks - a good time indeed.  This band will propbably get big if they take it seriously enough.  They've got a good swagger right now.  Will run a review of their cd in the near future.  Not today though...

Speaking of today - still not feeling quite right.  It's not one specific thing, but its just that something is not quite right.  I am just uncomfortable for the entire day.  Weird.

Today is the 35th anniversary of our future President Carter seeing a UFO.  Genius.

www.obamatest.com was worth a laugh.

"For the last 20 years, Barbara Streisand has been trying to do my job in the Senate.  Now I try to do hers."  McCain singing Streisand.  Very funny stuff.

WHY DOES IT SAY PAPER JAM WHEN THERE IS NO PAPER JAM!

thumbs down

Not feeling so hot so quick bullet points so I can get my mind right again.

TRL is getting cancelled.  Oh no.

Would it be weird/strange for me to want to go see Natalie Cole?  Woman is a legend, but is also for middle-aged women.  Thoughts?

There are supposedly 9 different groups of drinkers - which one do you fall into?

I have had that stupid Free Credit Report.com song stuck in my head for like a month now and its driving me insane.

I dont want to believe this - tea is healthier than wwater?  I dont mind tea, but not enough to drink a lot of it in a given day like I do with water.

The Mets are absoluytely killing me.   I will be on in the first row behind the dugout at the game tonight - watch for me.  I'll be the one berating every member of the team for no apparent reason.  I will probably be ejected.  It will be worth it.

And this one is to close it out, since I don't have any motivation amyore - the polygameat.

Am I Losing My Sex Appeal?

(I thinlk I am going to find a way to incorporate a good quote from the Rock as the title for posts)

Anywyaas, let's get down to business.

First, I hate you DeSean Jackson.  For those who don't know, he is a player on the Eagles who is on my fantasy team.  The guy I was playing had Brian Westbrook, and I was up by 9 going into the day.  Therefore if Westbrook scores 8 points or less more than Jackson, I win.  Jackson scores 18, Westbrook scores 33.  But that's not the point.  The point is that Jackson is a bonehead and had a long TD but decided to toss the ball away in celebration before he even got tothe end zone.  Who needs a TD when you can dance?  By losing these 6 points and having Westbrook score on the very next play, there was a 12point swing, ultimately costing me the game.  I hate you Desean Jackson.  I hate you.

The Mets are terrible and I am getting nervous.

It is a sad day - the Union Station movies are closing.  Boo-hoo.  These were seriously the most ghetto theaters ever.  Everyone was just screaming at the theater the whole time, whether you were seeing a comedy, an action movie or a drama.  Didn't matter.

I am missing the H St Festival this weekend becuase I am going home.

So I got this email from my brother today who works on Wall St - Wall Street workers make an average of $280,000 per year - about 5 times more than the average of the other workers in New York City.  However, these people support many other business - restaurants, car dealerships, interior decorators, etc.  Economists estimate that each Wall St. job creates 3 jobs in the Metropolitan area.

So that Wall St crisis?  Yea - it's significant.

A new craze?  Gastroporn?  Well, making food sexy.

A vid to close us out - how about how dumb Desean jackson is just so you can get a look at what I mean...

One more for the road:

SPEED

Not only do I have a healthy amount of work to attend to, I also am not all that motivated due to a lack of fun things to do/discuss.

Last week in my NFL pool I went 9-7, this week I went 9-5 with tonight's MNF gmae to come.

I am in my fantasy league title game for baseball.  I have played now 3 full seasons of fantasy - 1 championship so far (in the finals in another) and made the playoffs in all 3.  I am awesome.  This year, I sweep football and baseball.

Giants won big yesterday.  This offense looks great.  Did anyone see Eli's left-hadned throw?  Genius.

These guys were set up across the aisle from us at the Conference.  We all thought ti was funny - clearly, someone else did not.

Big fan of this pie chart:

Weekend was a good one.  I either want my weekends to be awesome or to be cheap.  This one wasn't necessarily fantastic but it wsa free, so no real complaints.  Friday played some basketball with the boys of TH - had a good time despite treacherous conditions and a ridiulous number of mosquito bites.  Friday night I stayed in, watched some tube and got some sleeps.  Saturday woke up, spent way too long at the grocery store (don't even get me started...) then spent some time at the Values Voter Summit.  My cab driver smelled bad, and despite some drama during the pick-up, things worked out smoothly.  Went to the gym, then back home for some eats.  Saturday night was an interesting one.

For those regular readers of this blog, you know that I will do ANYTHING if its free.  Saturday was no different.  I went to the opera at the Nationals Stadium.  They simulcasted it from the real DC opera and showed it on the jumbotron.  Very creative and really not bad.  The opera was La Traviata?  I don't know my opera, nor have I ever seen one before, but it was just a really long, drawn-out way of telling a simple story.  Rich guy falls in love with a prostitute, guy's father forces the prostitute to break up with him becuase it will spoil the family name, so she dates some guy with sweet facial hair, the whole thing blows up in the father's face, and some people die.  End of story.  How did this take 3 1/2 hours?  It was obscenely hot and crowded at the stadium, so we bugged out early.  It was free - I can't complain.  It was something a little different and gave me a taste of opera.  Great idea by the way for DC - there were probably 15,000 people or so there.  Saturday night went to a friends' place for the SNL with Michael Phelps which was terribly underwhelming.  He really is a robot  with no personality.

Sunday wentto Adams Morgan Day.  Nothing ground-breaking here, except for the fact that this may have been the first time I have ever seen the 18th St stretch in daylight.  Who knew there were some of these places tucked in between bars?  An african clothing store?  A Mexican music store?  A hardcore/punk clothing shop?  Where did this stuff come from?  Regardless, it was hot, and when finished, I came back and watched some NFL.  The Mets bullpen scares me.  And now it's Monday.

I am going home this coming weekend and am actually excited about it - I haven't been home since Easter and I really need to break the grind of DC.

That's all for now - enjoy the vid to finish things out (embed disabled)

I don't want to mak a mockery or be disrespectful, but I think laughing at some stupidity might be the bestway to handle such a sad day.  One of my earliest memories was being on the observation deck at the WTC when I was about 5 years old.  One of my mother's best friends growing up died there among countless others I didn't know.  I've been to the Ground Zero site and had to leave becuase it was so gruesome.  Of all of the exhibits about 9/11, I most strongly recommend the one in the NY State Musum in Albany.  It is very, very intense though - be warned.  On one hand, it should be a national holiday.  On another, it shouldn't be given off becuase it will turn this into an excuse for people to have a day off where the day itself isn't remembered.  I think it should be a National Day of Mourning but schools/businesses should gnot be closed.

Anywyas, onto other sutpidity to lighten the mood.

We were testing a part of the Th website yesterday when Kevin comes up with this gem to test the column feature (just for reference, Gary works at TH with us):  Gary Coby Can't Ball.  I especially love what KWG checked as his ethnicity.

One more thing on 9/11 - watch this episode if you havent yet.  I know I plug it all the time, but it seriously might be my favorite South Park episode ever.  Watch it again if you've seen it before.

Mets win again - 3 1/2 up and I am feeling good.  To be honest, I'm not that upset that Wagner is done.  He has a knack for collapsing in the big game anyways, so no big deal.  He lost us that ALCS to the Cardinals single-handedly.

History Channel is running a 9/11 special tonight that should be excellent.

Iron Chef America tonight has Batista as one of the judges  (he's a wrestler).

Mick Foley (another wrestler) will be on Kitchen Nightmares tonight with Gordon Ramsey.

Mitch Hedberg has a new cd out - you can actually get the whole thing here

There's this new movie out getting a lot of critical acclaim called the Wrestler.  It is coming out in the US I think in November?  I will definitely go see it.  Gotta support my addiction.

Shocker.  I HATE THE CHUNNEL.

...Interesting.  I wonder if there will be any accidental deliveries to TH instead of a local town hall...

The spreads at AEI are legendary.  This is confirmation.  And if you don't know AEI - go look it up.  Every single big name in the Conservative Movement is a fellow there.

And I was talking at lunch about my old days as a concert promoter and professional "scene" kid.  Oh, my youth. Oh well.  Anyways, I was gettinng a little nostalgic and went back looking through some old stuff, including my old website - www.angelfire.com/de3/rokkitt.  My hair looks retarded, I know.

Anyways, here's a song called As One We Stand by Death Threat just to give you an idea of my old stompin ground.  I never made it to Hellfest, but it looks insane.  Now I'm just too old for this nonsense.  And for full disclosure - yes, having someone stage-dive right into your face does hurt.

Short one today

To be completely honest - not a lot to tlak about.

Week 1 of NFL was covered yesterday, and I am thrileld that Brady is out.  I hate his guts.  Do you think it would be inappropriate to go out and buy a Bernard Pollard jersey?

The Mets had an off-day.

I just got a copy of the new Chuck Norris book called (I kid you not) Black Belt Patriotism.

Mitch Hedberg, dead 3 years, just released a new cd.

The grocery store didn't have any skim or 1% milk when I went this weekend.  This 2% stuff is like drinking heavy cream.  I can bear it, but it has been quite a long time since I have drank (drinken?  drinked?) this (my family always had 1% when I was growing up and now I drink skim) and it is HEAVY.

The Gym Class Heroes just came out with the new cd.  I might get my mitts on it, we'll see,

I won one of my fantasy leagues and lost another by a few points becuase Donovan McNabb and Reggie Bush combined for like 75 points this week.  I will win both leagues (and my baseball leauge too) - fear not.

This Saturday I treated myself to a trip to the Newseum.  It costs $20, so I was a bit hesitant, but man, it was great.  First, the architecture alone is really cool - it is ultra-modern with staggered floors and large lobbies and high ceilings - very cool.  I spent 4 hours there and could have easily spent 4 more.  Some of the exhibition highlights were newspaper accounts from the French and Indian War in Albany, NY papers, the entire cabin of the Unabomber (yes, the entire cabin), the radio tower from the North Tower of the WTC, the section about court cases challenging the first amendment, etc.  Just really, really good.  I might go back just to do all of the movies - like the 10 minutes movies that compliment each exhibit.  I didn't have time to do a single one and I kind of rushed through the bottom 2 floors.  Regardless, two thumbs way up, in case you are on the fence.

Since I am reading Chris Jericho's biography, it is only appropriate to post this.  Anyways, just bear with me here: Dean Malenko called himself the man of 1000 holds.  Jericho had somehting to say about that...
