Be Good To Yourself!

It's Friday, I am ready for the weekend.  It's been a long week and now a long day.  Nothing is being terribly cooperative.  Oh well.

Let's start out with how I spent my night last night:

Pay special attention to the slide that wins it by my boy D. Wright.  And yes, he has been my boy since he was a prospect.

DC School districts are going to PAY CASH to middle schoolers for being well-behaved and getting good grades.  Up to $100 a month.  This literally makes me want to vomit.  Especially knowing that this is what my tax dollars are going to.  I can't even discuss this.

A woman in Japan is giving birth to her own granddaughter.  She had an egg transplant from her daughter becuase the daughter has no uterus or something.  That.  Is.  Weird.

Article in the Express today about how bus riders are generally poorer than rail riders and how DC in particular is trying to convince people to ride the bus more with fun perks like wifi and cleaner buses.  However, it said (something like) 50% of those riders of the bus make under $35k.  Wow, maybe, jut maybe, it has nothing to do with the condition of the buses that drive people away, but rather that it is those ON THE BUS that drive people away.  Unless you are kicking off the dangerous and homeless, nobody will continue to ride the bus.  This is an inherent problem with DC - it's never the fault of those dangerous people.  It is always the fault of the circumstance.  Thus, if you correct the circumstance - giving out AIDS meds, giving incentives for middle schoolers to go to class, cleaning up the physical buses - but leaving those inside?  This is the problem.  Without cleaning up the clientele, you are not going to make any progress.  Is that a bad attitude?  Yes.  Is it the truth?  Yes.  Please do not even respond to this point, I don't want to start an argument.

I read a really funny article a few weeks ago that I forgot to post about about the origin of the fist-bump.  Supposedly it started with Moises Alou (baseball plyer) peeing on his hands to keep the skin tough so he wouldn't get blisters.  Nobody would want to shake his hand, then, so they started just bumping fists.  I guess Michelle Obama likes to urinate on herself.

Why isn't USA basketball dominating as much as they should be?  Today's superstars rely so heavily on superstar treatment by NBA refs that they have a tough time repeating those situations in international play.  What do I mean?  Dwayne Wade shoots 20 foul shots a game, with 25ish points per.  Without shooting more than 5 foul shouts (becuase nobody internationally falls for the fly in out of control, flail around and throw up the ball and get a foul called trick), he is ineffective.  This is why nobody watches the NBA.  Rules change for superstars.

An interesting way to tackle a problem...

I think I might actually try this one too...

I had a few minutes, and who knew - Chet Steadman from Rookie of the Year is Obama's VP Choice?!

This might just be the best thing ever to come out - Iron Chef America video game for Wii.

I used to work in a library, so this is even funnier.   I guess they had to do away with keeping guys on staff named Gazzo who were the thumb-breakers in the past.

And now, as the title suggests, be good to yourself!  Have a good weekend everybody!
